A Quick Weekend in SF
Working remotely has its definite cons, and DEFINITE pros.
I’m currently working remotely for a company based in Chi & Bos, while living in my home state of Montana while I “figure out what’s next”. I put that in quotes because what does that mean, anyway? Feels like we spend our entire lives wondering what’s next only to realize that the years wondering WERE what was next. Those years were our lives.
I digress. I’m spending time in Montana. Saving money (and traveling a bunch, let’s not forget also essentially re-doing my closet - I never claimed to be perfect amiright).
I teach ballet, so often my trips are long weekends, or the occasional long stint when I am able. In March of 2023, I took an adult spring break for a couple weeks to visit close friends in the bay area, and my family near Monterey / Carmel, California.
I find documenting my travels on social media a form of expression, but I find social media a form of depression. So, I thought I’d try to outline some fun stuff here.
Let’s start things off. I will never travel in jeans. I just won’t. A crop top, sure. But jeans? Never. I grabbed my Dodgers hat (which I later realized was probably a mistake considering I was going to the Bay), a crop top (I’m still reviewing if I’m too old to be wearing crop tops but I think I am going to continue because why tf not), and my coziest new sweats, and headed out.
I flew out of Missoula, MT. I’m absolutely obsessed with the new airport. Black Coffee Roasting is in full swing (one of my fav spots in town), and the views inside of the mountains are wonderfully relaxing. I got there early af as always and sat around reading and contemplating my life as per usual (read The Invitation this trip - about a writer in Rome so you can imagine I was vibing).
San Francisco was a dream. I haven’t been in years, and although it gets a bad rap, I found it just as charming as ever (it’s all about mindset and where you go IMO). My friend and I kicked things off on Friday with the BEST OYSTERS I’ve ever had, at Anchor Oyster Bar in the Castro. From there, we drank our way through the city to North Beach, where we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at Gino & Carlo’s (which also happens to be my friends bar and a classic).
A couple also came in while we were seated at the bar at Anchor and had just gotten married, so we sent them and their witness glasses of bubbly to say congrats.
On Saturday, we grabbed brunch with friends at Fable in the Castro district. If you need a bridal shower / girls brunch / literally any event — 10/10 recommend. Adorable patio with every detail thought out to match. I got the Red Quinoa Brunch Bowl with Poached Eggs & Avocado because I needed health and it was divine along with the Chocolate Chip Banana Bread for the table. The Martini & Rossi Wine Spritzer was the perfect Aperol / non Aperol Spritz I needed to get the day going — refreshing and not too strong to start.
From there, we went wine tasting at a cute wine shop in the Castro, and then grabbed a bottle to take to Dolores Park where we drank wine & watched the city. We went out to a Mediterranean dinner that night & out in the Castro.
The next day we grabbed brunch at Kitchen Story in SF (every thing you order here has a flower or some sort of cute presentation — loved it). We got a “bacon flight” of 4 different flavors of bacon and each one was insane (Rosemary, cinnamon, classic, and orange). Then after a pineapple strawberry mimosa we shopped on Valencia St. where I got the cutest prints at a boutique.
And then, it was off to the Bay suburbs, Monterey, Carmel & Salinas…. more to come!
